Extra Creamy Southern Butter Grits

Creamy mashed potatoes in a pan topped with a pat of melting butter and a sprinkle of black pepper.
“He fills my cup. ” – Psalm 23:5

Stone-ground grits slow-cooked with plenty of butter, salt, and a splash of heavy cream until impossibly smooth and rich. The Southern breakfast staple, done right.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 5 Tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Slowly whisk in grits to prevent lumps.

Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring often, for 20–25 minutes until thick and creamy. Stir in butter, salt, black pepper, and heavy cream if using.

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot.
