Fluffy buttermilk pancakes stacked high and drenched in a fragrant homemade syrup of brown sugar, fresh orange juice, zest, and whole cloves. Sunday breakfast worth waking up for.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 Tbsp melted butter Orange Clove Brown Sugar Syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter.

Gently fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined. Heat a lightly greased griddle over medium heat.

Pour batter and cook until bubbles form, then flip and cook until golden. For the syrup, combine brown sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and cloves in a saucepan.

Simmer over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove cloves and stir in vanilla.

Stack pancakes and drizzle generously with syrup. Serve warm and enjoy.
