Homemade Pizza Dough

Round ball of bread dough on a floured wooden surface with a rolling pin and olive oil in the background behind it.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” – Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1¼ cups warm water (105–110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1½ teaspoons salt

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5–10 minutes, or until foamy.

Stir in olive oil. Add flour and salt.

Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. (Or knead in a stand mixer for 5–6 minutes.) Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat.

Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size. Punch dough down and divide into two equal portions.

Let dough rest for 15–20 minutes before stretching. Preheat oven to 475–500°F.

If using a pizza stone or steel, preheat for at least 30 minutes. Stretch or roll dough into a 12-inch circle.

Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
